The night will be filled with Afrikaans wordsmithing, tangos and lullabies. But one things remains true, the ‘old’ texts still push boundaries in mind and society, and is as relevant today as when it was written in the past. Thought provoking, Afrikaans stripped down cabaret at its finest.
Mr Cat and the Jackal are currently working on their 4th Album, after the release of Sins and Siren Songs in 2014. They have since been working in theatre allot and doing the music scoring for TV, FILM and ads.
Gertjie Besselsen customized a guitar to replicate the sound of a sitar when composing the music to ID Du Plessis’s poetry. He is fascinated with indian music, instruments and also the art of Indian Cooking. He cooks a mean Vindaloo, Rogan Josh or Butter chicken from scratch. Gertjie cooks almost every night when he is not playing a gig and wears an apron.
Gertjie does long distance running and trail running for about a 2 years now. He once downed a beer on the 16th kilometer of a race.
Gertjie loves composing music for old poetry in Afrikaans (specifically for theater) and he is damn good at.
Gertjie has an eye for vintage clothing.
Gertjie likes putting on a dress every now and then.
Gertjie builds beautiful sets for theater. He welds like a rockstar.
He is an amateur Botanist and loves climbing up mountains.
Best gigs: In a theatre. He loves to do a curtain call. Gertjie is a trained actor.
Worst gigs: in noisy spaces where no one pays attention.
