In February / March 2017 Original Swimming Party will launch their debut full-length album titled ‘Hypergiant’. The album is OSP’s most ambitious project yet coming in it at over an hour of music and featuring numerous guest artists including TheCITY, Lasta Mkhize (Vocals), Keenan Ahrends (Guitar), Greg Abrahams (Guitar), Gene Kierman (French Horn) & Ryan McArthur (Bass Guitar).
The album also features field recordings by the band capturing sounds of their everyday lives around the City Of Cape Town, including unique binaural recordings of the hidden water tunnels underneath the CBD.
The album will feature artwork by Boston based visual artist Kevin Townsend who has created a series of works based on the the theme of Hypergiant.
Original Swimming Party will debut the material from the album with 2 back to back performances in Cape Town in March. The first will be at Design Indaba 2017 on Friday the 3rd of March and will feature a range of guest artists including Moonchild and Freestyle Love Supreme.
The second show will be a more intimate performance of material from the album at Café Roux in Cape Town on Saturday the 4th of March to a limited audience. The band will play 2 extended sets, stopping between songs to go through the process of the album’s creation with the audience. They will delve into things like how they work with collaborators, how they use field recordings to add texture to the music and how they were able to complete the album remotely with Jeremy in Cape Town and Tom in London.
The band will then take the album on tour to Europe and the US in the 2nd half of 2017.
