Valiant Swart to play Cafe Roux in Cape Town
Valiant Swart has been a fixture on the SA music scene since 1990. His particular brand of soulful blues, folk and country-rock, blended with indigenous South African influences like boeremusiek and kwela, has earned him a large, loyal following countrywide. He has literally played thousands of gigs all over South Africa and abroad, from pubs and rock festivals to theatres and massive gala events at Sun City and the like. In 2010, he was the first recipient of the coveted Oppikoppi ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award.
He has released 17 albums, starting with ‘Die Mystic Boer’ in 1996, up to ‘Nagrit’ in 2016, picking up numerous awards along the way. He has also published three books, and has been a popular magazine columnist for more than ten years. Television work saw him presenting a 13-part series on blues music for kykNet (Veertig dae deur die Delta), which documents his journey through the heart of the blues in Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana. Following that, he starred in the male lead role in the hugely popular drama series ‘Song vir Katryn’. He also composed and released the soundtrack for the series, resulting in a gold status album.
Valiant’s will be joined on stage with Simon Orange (keys), and himself on guitar and vocals. Join us as he combines his classic songs – some poignant, some sad, some absolutely hilarious, with the storytelling style of a true raconteur.
Make sure not to miss this treasure of SA music during one of his rare visits to our city venue!
