Nicky Schrire is a singer-songwriter, a composer and an arranger comfortable in varying genres. Her 2018 is a perfect example of her chameleon-like ability to move seamlessly from jazz to classical to popular styles with a curiosity and playfulness that has critics comparing her to Joni Mitchell, Tori Amos and Esperanza Spalding. After headlining at the 2018 Cape Town International Jazz Festival, and performances at the 2018 Suidoosterfees and 2018 Franschhoek Literary Festival with her contemporary classical Ingrid Jonker-inspired suite, Nicky returns to Cafe Roux and her singer-songwriter roots.
To celebrate Women’s Day, she will share her own tales of love, loss and online dating, and celebrate the female songwriters who’ve inspired her. Her stellar band includes cellist Ariella Caira, guitarist Michael Bester, and drummer Kevin Gibson. The enchanting singer/guitarist Tracy Norman plays the opening set.
