Monark updated 2018

BOOK NOW

Without a doubt one of the most exciting acts to break out from 2013, Monark are changing the face of pop music in South Africa. Mixing Eugene Coetzers uniquely characterful vocal delivery – polished with his distinctive falsetto – and Ewald Jansen van Rensberg unmatched, global production style, Monark craft songs rich in meaning and soul stirring hooks.

Performing as a 4-piece band, Monark deliver something completely fresh and unique, and are setting trends sonically and stirring up tastes in the South African music landscape. Having dominated the South African airwaves with their first 2 singles, Smiling (5FM Top 3) and Build It Up (5FM Top 5, and #1 on Jacaranda FM, Highveld/KFM, Algoa FM, OFM), they also released their 3rd single, Something in the build up to the launch of their debut album NEGATIVES. The album, which was released worldwide on 14 July 2014, peaked at No. 1 on the iTunes Album Chart on the day of its release.

MORE ABOUT MONARK

Home to some of South Africa’s most renowned legendary bands, Potchefstroom delivered their latest offering to the South African music scene – Monark – in May 2013 when the four piece pop rock band emerged with their first single, Smiling.

The band was formed when producer Ewald Jansen van Rensburg teamed up with friend and vocalist, Eugene Coetzer. For a couple of years they patiently developed and worked towards finding the specific sound they were after. Once they had discovered it, they gathered together the musicians that were needed to grow and perform the music, with Deon de Klerk joining the band on bass guitar and Graeme Wuth on drums. The band officially formed in August 2012, intent on making popular, yet tastefully engineered music with a cinematic feel.Â

With Eugenes unmistakably unique voice and soaring falsetto, Smiling immediately gained mainstream attention and popularity on major radio stations throughout South Africa. It peaked at No. 3 on 5FM Top 40 Chart and was a Top 20 hit on Highveld and KFM. The video also reached No. 1 on MKs Top 10 Chart.

December 2013 saw the release of Monarks second single and music video, entitled Build It Up. The single soon followed in the footsteps of Smiling success and charted on radio nationwide. It reached the Top 5 on 5FM’s Top 40 Chart, No. 2 on East Coast Radio and became the bands first No. 1 single, topping the Jacaranda FM Top 20 Chart, KFM and Highveldâs Kia Take 40 SA Chart as well as reaching No. 1 on Algoa FM.The bandS follow up songs – Something and You Make also did well through the end of 2014 into 2015, with a new singLe called Hush being released half way through last year to massive success across all radio stations, achieving Top 5 status in charts across the country and becoming a firm favorite at the live shows.

Monark achieved industry recognition winning the MK 2014 Award for Best Newcomer, along with being chosen as one of the selections in iTunes exclusive New Artist in 2014™ campaign. At the 2015 SAMA™s (South African Music Awards), the band were nominated for Best Pop Album, as well as Record of the Year, along with a nomination for Ewald Jansen van Rensburg for Best Producer for the NEGATIVES album.  In 2016, the band released a deluxe edition of their debut album which includes their latest singles Hush and the songs currently charting on SA airwaves, Falling and Soldier, as well as a couple of other new tracks and remixes.

Their energetic and polished live performances have been incredibly well received by their fans, with Monark performing on some of the top stages in the country – including Rocking The Daisies, Durban Day, Kirstenbosch Gardens, Parklife, 94.7 Joburg Day, KFM 94.5’s KDAY, Splashy Fen, KKNK, Durban Botanical Gardens, supporting international superstars Bastille at Emmarentia Dam in JHB, to name but a few, as well as live performances on top rated TV shows The Voice, Strictly Come Dancing, and at the 2016 South African Music Awards.

Recent projects include a collaboration on the world-renowned Coke Studios TV show with Rap icon Riky Rick, and upcoming vocal star Lisa Good.  The single that was created was called â˜Spare a Little Love’, and was released in September 2016 to great acclaim. The band released their 2nd studio album which is self titled as Monark at the end of May 2017, with the first 2 singles achieving tremendous success on SA radio, starting with genre departure Broken, and the latest being “Show Me The Love”

Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys

lucy kruger and the lost boys

BOOK NOW

Lucy Kruger is a musician and songwriter.

Since the release of her debut album Cut those Strings™ in 2013 she has toured extensively both locally and internationally, collaborating with a number of different artists on various projects. She is one half of dream noise duo, Medicine Boy.

Her solo project focuses on the bare bones of the songs, drawing on her folk roots.

Her performance is honest and intimate, revealing a child-like curiosity towards the darker elements of sound and subject matter.

In 2014 she put together her current band, The Lost Boys, which includes Andre Leo, Werner von Waltsleben, Lucas Swart and Calvin Siderfin.

They released a self-titled EP in 2015 in which they first started exploring the psychedelic folk/dream pop that has come to define their sound.

Summer’s Not Simple is the first full length album from Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys.

The album is a quiet conversation/conjuring expressed with a single voice and a sea of guitars.

It is a quiet call to the wild;

an attempt to keep the soft animal alive.

The sound drifts between the bareness of the acoustic guitar and the darker, psychedelic approach of the band.

The Lost Boys have been working with Lucy for a number of years and have become her sonic sub-conscious. Their instruments swell, collide and collapse around her to create the strange yet familiar landscape of the album.

Most of the songs were written in a small spare room in the summer of 2016, workshopped with the band in the autumn and recorded in the winter at Digital Forest Studios with Dave Langemann.

He made a promise to his mother that he would finish his degree first before staring on a road to music, and boldly took the plunge to come to The Voice SA, despite never having sung in front of so many people before. His blistering version of The Animals House of the Rising Sun was enough for all four of the coaches to press their buzzers and despite some serious pleas, Craig chose Kahn Morbee the first coach to turn for him as his coach.

Riaad Moosa is one of South Africa’s most popular, award-winning and innovative comedians; and happens to be a qualified medical doctor as well! Recently, Riaad has also flexed his comedic and dramatic acting muscles, playing the lead in the movie “Material”, which is currently inspiring audiences all over South Africa. On stage, he conquers new fans on an almost daily basis with sold-out one-man shows such as “Strictly Halaal” and “Riaad Moosa For The Baracka.” Both shows prompted extended runs, as well as special shows being created to accommodate the huge public demand. Both shows were also released on DVD. Riaad has appeared in various TV and film productions, such as “Laugh Out Loud” (SA’s largest standup comedy show in TV history); Riaad was also a writer and performer for SABC 1’s “Pure Monate Show” – which achieved cult status amongst South Africa’s youth. He also featured in the Anant Singh/John Vlismas produced comedy-collective feature film “Outrageous”, which was released at cinemas nationwide towards the end of 2009. Along with SA’s other top comedians – including Trevor Noah, David Kau, John Vlismas, Tumi Morake and Marc Lottering – Riaad was one of the headline acts supporting international superstar Eddie Izzard for the 46664 “It’s No Joke” concert in February 2010. Riaad has since become a regular presenter of a segment entitled “The Second Opinion – with Dr Riaad Moosa” on the E news channel’s satirical news programme “Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola.” In March 2011, Riaad was awarded the “Comics Choice Award” at the “1st Annual South African Comic’s Choice Awards.”

Moosa, one of the country’s most popular and acclaimed funnymen with a style all his own, is known as “the Comedy Doctor”, and he certainly seems to have the remedy for the nation’s ills at the moment: a healthy dose of laughter, straight up – hold the aspirin.
