BOOK NOW

Mandisi Dyantyis is a South African trumpeter and vocalist who has recently released his debut album entitled Somandla and was nominated for the SAMA award for best Jazz Album of 2019.
Somandla
has tracks that are more traditional gospel, it has tracks that have
elements of Afro-pop as well as tracks that speak directly to the jazz
and Afro-jazz audience.
This is the link to his official video for the song “Somandla”.
It
is an incredible album and has desevedly been well received, but it
does not do justice, to the experience of seeing Mandisi LIVE.
This is another rare Cape Town performance and be sure to catch him before he leaves again for the USA.
A little about Mandisi Dyantyis:
Born and raised in Port Elizabeth, Mandisi began playing the trumpet at The age of 8. He Studied Classical music throughout his schooling career (Pearson High School) and emerged from the University of Cape Town with a BMus Honors Degree in Jazz Studies in 2005 where he played in the UCT Big Band for most of his studies. He is a versatile musician who is also a composer, arranger and producer not only in Jazz but Western Classical and African Indigenous Music as well. He has played with some of the country’s top musicians over the years. These include Jimmy Dludlu, The Abdullah Ibrahim Big Band, Robbie Jansen, Max Vidima, Moreira Chonguica just to name a few. He has produced, played and co written on Nomfundo Xaluva’s multi award winning albums KUSILE and From Now On.
Mandisi has just released his debut album, titled SOMANDLA (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00aZmZeo6Lc). Released only at the end of October, this body of work has already garnered significant and positive attention on all spheres of media and radio. SOMANDLA is a work premised on the sacred act of prayer, peppered with issues of current societal interest and most noteworthy, the “old school” romantic sentiment delivered in the persuasive elegance of his mother tongue, isiXhosa. This debut offering is a befitting exhibition of Dyantyis’ versatility as a prolific songwriter/composer, trumpeter, and outstanding vocal artist (https://itunes.apple.com/za/album/somandla/1440476891).

He currently holds the position of Musical Director for theatre company Isango Ensemble (site.isangoensemble.org.za), previously known as Portobello. He has held this position since 2008 and has travelled around the globe as it’s musical director places like  London (West End), Cape Town (Fugard Theatre), Ireland, Singapore, Japan and USA. He was nominated for NAACP Award for Best musical Director (National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People, Los Angeles) as well as Artist in Residence at the New York University Drama School in 2010.

Café Roux and Exploring Consciousness bring you Films to inspire living.
Join us for an enlightening evening….pre-book your tickets online and sit back and watch an inspiring film and stay for a discussion thereafter. The movie will begin at 6pm sharp. Dinner / Coffee / Drinks available afterwards for you to continue with the discussion.

If you’ve been searching for your true purpose in life, Eckhart Tolle has some straightforward advice: stop struggling. For the primary purpose of every human being is simply to be: fully engaged in this moment, and aligned with the natural flow of reality itself.

On Finding Your Life’s Purpose, the bestselling author of A New Earth invites you to discover the twofold intention of our human incarnation: to free yourself from the prison of “thought-based reality,” and to express in your own way the grand vision that universal consciousness has for your life.

Finding Your Life’s Purpose brings you into the vibrant presence of this sublime teacher, as he offers his one-of-a-kind guidance about:

  • The beauty of effortless being, and how to awaken to it
  • Tapping the vast power and intelligence of stillness
  • How to embrace the space rather than the form of this moment
  • Unfolding your purpose through actions in alignment with the timeless present
  • How to see the deeper essence of another human being

“You are the consciousness that illuminates the world. Know yourself as that—that’s what life wants with you,” teaches Eckhart Tolle.

Watershed – structured around singer, songwriter and instrumentalist Craig Hinds who has always felt he is a man with a positive message to convey and after teaching high school for two years while playing his own material out in smaller venues Craig decided to take the opportunity to form a band and make his voice and songs heard across the world.

Watershed’s travels have led them to perform at the prestigious South by South West Music festival in Austin Texas and Canadian Music week to various dates across Europe where their music is particularly well received in Germany, Austria and Switzerland after a radio DJ on holiday in South Africa heard “Indigo Girl” and thought it would enchant his listeners. He was absolutely right. The play listing of the song on the local German station quickly built momentum and lead to them to be picked up by EMI Germany who released “In The Meantime” and every album & single since.

Working with various producer’s the band had the opportunity to hone all the facets that make up a great album and the result is their finest work to date. The new album “Watch the Rain” tips the hat to the new-age country sound while still remaining grounded in the cultured acoustic rock that Watershed is known and loved for and the first single off the album “Magical Energy” is already building momentum on the local South African charts.  While the term Watershed is universally used to describe a turning point, a lesser known use is in broadcasting field where it is used to describe the transition time when adult content can be shown and maybe now that’s a better fit for a band that has matured and realised the strength and depth of their sound and trusted in their process and abilities.  Watershed are 15 years in the making and nowhere near ready to stop.

Reviews:

“A very special, multi-faceted and talented young lady who is driven by a love for what she does -and it shows. She also has a magnificent voice and knows how to use it whether rocking flat out or crooning a gentle balled. Miss her and miss out!” – Norman Carless

“Well presented and put together. Trio worked well together with humour coming through. Eva Cassidy is very hard to emulate as she had such an unique range and style.”

“It was the first time that I listened to Tanja Storm – and what a pleasure it was, especially her renditions of Eva Cassidy’s wonderful type of singing. Also, her simultaneous accompaniment on the piano was top-class. I also am a pianist of sorts and can assure you that she could have embarked on a career relying solely on her pianist skill – and to accompany your own singing is no mean achievement.”
