ALEXANDRA MAY has been wowing the South African public since the age of 11 in a number of high profile theatre productions, dedicating her heart and soul to the arts at a very young age.
Alexandra has been surrounded by music her whole life. Growing up in a musical family, she started singing at the age of 7, and dancing and acting soon followed. She started out with ballet and modern dancing, and has also been doing Latin American and Ballroom dancing for the past 4 years. As a kid, she appeared on SABC’s Fun Factory and in her teens, she performed at the People’s Theatre in Johannesburg in productions such as Beauty & The Beast, Disney’s Little Mermaid and Sleeping Beauty amongst others. In 2012, she also performed her own show ‘Regardez – Journey in Song’ at the Sandton Theatre on the Square.
In 2014 she joined the Africa Voices Programme – an organisation geared towards the development of highly talented and deserving young musicians beginning their careers in the music and film industries. Here Alexandra was mentored by industry greats such as David Kramer and Mike Myers.
Alexandra has performed with the Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra and the Rand Symphony Orchestra, and in 2015 was signed to renowned South African label, The David Gresham Record Company.
She listens to and is influenced by different genres and many elements of music. She describes her sound as a mixture of everything she loves in music, whether that be retro sounds or the 80s. She finds inspiration from the world around her, including experiences and lessons she has learned from people, failures and happiness. Her main aim is to inspire people with her music and also to enthuse to have a great time.
Alexandra released her debut single, AMAZING, through David Gresham Records in April 2016, which charted on 5FM, Good Hope FM and PukFM. In September 2016, she released her second single entitled Highlights, as well as her debut EP on 2 September, entitled ONE.
The EP was produced by Ziggy Adolf and was recorded during 2015 and 2016 at David Gresham Records Studios. ALEXANDRA describes the EP as showing different aspects of herself emotionally and vocally.
Mid 2017 ushered in a new phase for Alexandra as she launches herself as an Independent Artist.  She has been in studio with Producer – Greg Carlin of OPENROOM Productions recording a song she wrote, entitled “LIKE YOU DO”, and released it on the 15 September 2017.
“I want to inspire and encourage people with my music  Whether it gives someone the guts to tell someone how they feel about them, or gives them a moment to cry and let their feelings out.” says Alexandra. Her singles Amazing & Highlights were #3 and #6 respectively on the 5fm Charts for Top Songs 2016.
ALEXANDRA also recently became an ambassador for INSPIRED YOUTH programme, which has been created to positively enhance the quality of life for young people around the world.
