Known for their electrifying live performances, this four-piece is spearheaded by female British songwriter Caminey Kuropatwa on vocals and piano; newest member Marcel Smit on guitar, who has accolades such as Battle of the Bands winner as well as Most Creative Guitarist at M4A; Damian Rijkers, previously of Sabretooth, who has also drummed for The Rudimentals and Richard Stirton; and multi-instrumentalist session musician and former Eminent Child bassist Michael McAuley.
Lights Out know how to read a crowd – they provide raw and honest yet energised performances of original music that has its roots in classic rock such as Led Zeppelin, Foo Fighters and Skunk Anansie, layered with nuances and finesse inspired by the likes of Imogen Heap and Tori Amos.
Their debut single ‘Shut It Down’ has been described by SA’s biggest and award-winning music blog, Texx and the City, as ‘self-assertive and headstrong’, ‘drenched in distortion….the explosive chorus highlights Kuropatwa’s powerful vocal dynamic and lyricism centred on strong-willed empowerment’.
Lights Out have become a regular feature on the Cape Town gig circuit as well as having two previously sold-out shows at Cafe Roux. For more information and links to music, check their FB and Insta pages.
