Lionel Bastos & Chris Tokalon
Lionel Bastos is a multiple SAMA award nominee and SAMA award winner. He has written songs for and/or produced albums for some of the top names in South Africa including Yvonne Chaka-Chaka, Wendy Oldfield, PJ Powers, Little Sister, Vicky Sampson, Auriol Hays, Tshepo Tsola, Andre Schwartz, Coleske, Ed Jordan & James Stewart. He wrote and produced the longest running DSTV ad song, “More”. In 2014 he composed the film score for a local film called “Konfetti ” which won awards internationally and locally.He has performed on every continent and was the opening act for The Bee Gees’ only performance in Africa at Loftus Versveld Stadium in Pretoria and was in the opening act for Wet, Wet, Wet.Lionel had released 6 albums to date. Chris Tokalon is a vocalist and plays sax, flute and hang drum* He is also well known a sound therapist and recording artist. He has played since 1979 in a wide variety of collaborations which have been at the forefront of local original music over the years – African jazz ensembles, theatre musicals and cabarets. He has performed around SA with various bands and artists such as Steve Newman, Tony Cox, Wendy Oldfield and Paul Hamner to name a few. He does a solo show Don’t Tune Me I’ll Tune You as “The Marvellous Mouth” in which he is known for an astonishing ability to mimic musical instruments, birds, animals and people in performance ,combined with real sax and flute. He uses a loop pedal to combine these vocal gymnastics and real life instruments live in front of his audience in a variety of hilarious original “tunes”.
