The Sweet Sounds of Maya Spector
Maya Spector’s voice has a texture that might be best described as an old soul, weathered by life and schooled by adversity, yet still so alive in vocal tone and bubbly in its expression.
Coming from a culturally diverse, musical family, Maya was always surrounded by new music styles and ways of life. She was born in Japan to an American father and South African mother, lived in Swaziland, The United States and South Africa. She graduated in 2009 from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal with a Bachelor of Music degree, majoring in jazz performance and music education.
Never staying far from the stage, she has appeared on stages around South Africa in international and South African musicals and as a lead vocalist and back-up singer with many different music groups and she has performed and recorded with a number of leading South African artists.
Her debut EP, entitled “My Simple Little EPâ€, earned Maya some great radio airtime with her single ‘Slow’ hitting the local Top 40 Heart FM chart. Maya is back in studio working on new material with coveted music producer Graham Ward and looking to hit the airwaves soon with her new school/ through back sound.
Maya’s music is something that is certain to set your own musical inspiration running rampant. One thing is for certain, Maya Spector does not live for music; she is alive because of it!
“Spector’s voice is pure honey, with the darkness as well as sweetness that implies, and she tells her stories convincingly.” -Gwen Ansell (Business Day Live)
